Halloween and Bathday

It’s about time, I know!

First off, because it’s Remembrance Day up here in the Great White North (pretty presumptuous of us to call ourselves that as if there aren’t other northern nations out there), I must say thanks to all those men and women that put their lives on the line so that we can live in the country that we live in right now. Thank you to all those men and women working hard now so that we can live in this peaceful country with no war and genocides.

So, without further ado, here are some pictures from Halloween and my awesome birthday celebration!

Like I said in a previous blog, I dressed up as Minnie Mouse at a cocktail party. The only thing I was missing were my elbow-high white gloves which would have TOTALLY completed my costume, but I think it works pretty well like this. I just noticed that it looks like I’m frowning, but I swear I’m not!

I just love my Rouge Coco Chanel lipstick. I was able to just paint it on brighter because I was wearing a costume! Love this red.

YuChun painted on a Ninja Turtle on his nose! He’s also wearing the Duffy earhat A. brought back from Disneyland California. And oh look, there’s McDuff in an aviator outfit!

We spent a fun Halloween night with Anndie watching 1,000 ways to Die on Spike TV.

This past weekend, my awesome friends threw me a surprise birthday tea party! They even got me balloons with the Disney princesses on it and one with my fave princess, Rapunzel.

My bff and I!

My wonderful YuChun that was in on the surprise and took me on a 40 minute walk around the block in a big circle, just to throw me off. It was very cold and windy! Needless to say, I did not love that part.

The rest of my best girlfriends.

Let’s take a look at the food shall we? We had Afternoon Tea at the Library Bar in Toronto’s Fairmont Royal York. I’m a big fan of the Fairmont hotels and I’ve always wanted to experience the Toronto one.

I don’t remember any of the names so you can try to figure it out on their menu

This was a crumpet I believe. It was yummy.

Some finger sandwiches. The only one I really liked was the one on the bottom center. It has lobster, yumm-o!

And, the desserts!

The scones with the spread we were given was divine. But there is no contest that both YC and I loved the white chocolate Madeleines, which is strange because I don’t love white chocolate. I’m also not a fan of fruit tarts, but the strawberry one was very fresh and flaky.

We were all given a pot of tea each, so instead of being forced to finish whichever tea we chose, we all shared our pots so everyone could try the teas they offered. I think my favourites are the Jasmine and Green teas, even though I ordered the chamomile. Their English Breakfast was not bad when made into a milk tea.

Overall, the experience was sub par. For the price that was payed (because I didn’t pay it), I think I expected just a little more. The food was filling enough, but they weren’t all the best. The service was a tad slow. The atmosphere was very nice though and so was the music accompaniment. I would do this again if they had a change in menu.

This doesn’t turn me off of afternoon teas though. On the contrary, it makes me want to experience more! I’m all about price reflecting quality. If something is worth it, it’s worth it. I enjoyed tea at the Library bar, but I’m not rushing to return. It was nice for what it is. An affordable afternoon tea experience that is great for first-timers.

Oh yes, because it was my “bathday”, I was given a slab of cheesecake.

The fruit was fresh and delicious but the cake was too tart for my liking.
