PC Paradise: Eating blue

After my long absence, I’m back with some great food reviews!

I’m a big fan of the President’s Choice line of products, especially their food. With the healthy eating trend growing, PC has jumped on the bandwagon and come out with even MORE low-fat, low-caloric and still yummy foods!

I bought some stuff from their Blue menu as well as some fruit drinks.

First up, Blue Menu’s double chocolate oatmeal cookies.

I’ll be honest, I only picked it up because of that red sticker you see on the box. I rarely buy cookies and when I do, I usually go to Sobey’s. They have GREAT cookies.

I like chocolate, but don’t need a lot of it. I also really like oatmeal cookies and this one was chewy too! So I had to give it a try.

Well, it wasn’t bad. It was very chewy. Not exactly what I expected. It was more like eating a Quaker chewy bar, which I really like. So if you like oatmeal bars, then I would recommend this.

Next up, Blue Menu’s double chocolate whole grain muffins.

Again, bought because of the red sticker.

Now this one….I’ve never had an whole grain muffin, so I didn’t know what to expect. Well…it tastes like…. a vegan muffin. I used to live with a vegan that liked to bake, and this tasted just like what she would make.

Is that a good thing? Well, it’s just bland. Consistency of a dry carrot muffin. It’s only saving grace are the chocolate chips in it. Every bite (and I take small ones) had at least 2 of them, so that was pleasing to chew on. Besides that, I would not recommend this.

Another on from the Blue Menu, apple crisp!

I’m a fan of apple crisp. I love it! That doesn’t mean I’ll love every one that I have. I did not love this one.

The ratio of apple to crisp was way off. Too much apple and not enough crisp. When the ratio is off, it’s either comes out too sour, or not apple-y enough. I also prefer my apple crisp with chunks instead of slices (makes it easier to eat), so it lost some of my personal points there.

For apple crisp lovers, I would not recommend this. If you’re not a fan, I don’t know why you would get it at all!

Next on the docket, some of their newer products.

A while ago, the unhealthiness of student living caught up to me and I noticed that I was not eating any fruits or vegetables. Hey, that stuff is pricey! When you’re only buying and eating for one, you don’t tend to buy food that doesn’t last at least a week. Another reason for this is because the grocery store only gives a student discount once a week, which gives me less incentive to do more grocery shopping during the week.

In lieu of all this, I’ve become a fan of drinks that give me what I’m missing. I tried a bunch of those V8 veggie and fruit juices which are pretty good! On my latest shopping trip, I noticed these drinks and decided to give them a try.

Again, from the Blue Menu with only 60 calories a can (250ml), Sparkling Peach Mango juice.

I’m not a fan of sparkling, but it was on sale so I decided to give it a try.

At first…it was ok. Not so bad. I drank it with my lunch. That was my mistake. By itself, this drink is pretty good. One serving of fruit per can. With food? Mmmmm, I would not recommend it. Maybe it’s just personal taste, but the flavour did not mix well with food at all.

If you are a fan of sparkling juice, I would recommend it. It’s a very refreshing drink and it’s healthy!

Now for some non-bubbly, apple cranberry juice!

Ok, I just LOVE apples, so of course I wanted to try this apple juice. They had a few other different flavours, but this one stood out to me the most.

It has 2 servings of fruit per 250ml, which is twice as much as the bubbly, and it’s definitely MUCH BETTER. Again, matter of personal taste probably. It tasted like…liquid apple sauce. Yum! They also add vitamin C in the juice for an extra kick of healthy.

This one was pretty pricey, at $4.99 a bottle. I don’t think I’ll be getting it again any time soon, but I do want to try their other flavours. Thumbs up from me!

So what did you think of my reviews? Would you like me to report my prices? Should I tell you about what other flavours a certain product has? Would you like me to have a set kind of rating system? Tell me what you think!
